But I’m a Gilmore! is a comprehensive, exclusive collection of essays by cast, crew, and fans, including… me!

MY ESSAY IN THIS BOOK

I wrote about the meaning and impact of my book club, The Rory Gilmore Book Club, in which we take the Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge to read the books on Gilmore Girls.

You also hear from everyone from actors to crew, hobbyists, and those involved with the Fan Fest Society. This compilation keeps the show alive, shares new information, and helps you connect with others in the Gilmore Girls community.

The Gilmore Companion by A.S. Berman

  • Recommended For: behind-the-scenes stories
  • My Review: ★★★☆☆

The Gilmore Companion is a behind-the-scenes look at all the hottest Gilmore Girls news, from the first episode to the last and everything in between. It gives you all the scoop about the show from the show creators, employees, and actors themselves. Of note is Richard Gilmore’s voice, which is prominently featured.

The reader can reminisce and learn something new at the same time. It also makes a great pairing for a Gilmore Girls rewatch.

Have I Told You This Already?: Stories I Don’t Want to Forget to Remember (2022)

  • New York Times bestseller
  • Recommended For: humorous essays
  • My Review: ★★★★☆

Have I Told You This Already? expands on the personal essays Graham wrote in her earlier book, Talking as Fast as I Can.

All the essays were interesting and entertaining. While her last book felt a bit tight-lipped and buttoned-up to me, in this one, she let her guard down a lot more, talking about her absentee mother, her body, and her breakup with her long-term boyfriend, Peter Krause.

She also lets the reader in on stories that drop more names than I could count, from her Parenthood co-star Mae Whitman to Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, Matthew McConaughey, and so many more.

And, yes, there’s plenty of Gilmore Girls chatter too (all positive).

Want to hear a bit more from Lauren herself? Here is an audio clip from the book.

Talking As Fast As I Can by Lauren Graham

  • New York Times bestseller
  • Recommended For: humorous essays
  • My Review: ★★★☆☆

In Talking as Fast as I Can, actress Lauren Graham shares a collection of personal essays in a voice as fast and quirky as her character, Lorelai Gilmore. She reveals behind-the-scenes stories about Gilmore Girls and reflects on her life, particularly as a working actress.

While she opens up about the challenges of being single in Hollywood, this isn’t a “tell-all” but rather amusing ruminations as PG as Gilmore Girls. It’s a little bit of Lauren, a little bit of Lorelai, and a whole lot of fun.

The Third Gilmore Girl by Kelly Bishop

  • Recommended For: a decades long tale of life in and out of the spotlight
  • My Review: ★★★★☆

The Third Gilmore Girl is the memoir of the woman behind the famous role of Emily Gilmore. Actress Kelly Bishop reflects on her illustrious career, from winning a Tony Award in A Chorus Line to starring in Dirty Dancing and, of course, Gilmore Girls.

Through personal stories, she recounts her transition from dance to acting, her relationships, her advocacy for women’s rights, and so much more.

Bishop’s status as a Hollywood icon shows in this forthright memoir of a long life in show business. She’s as headstrong as Emily but far more warm-hearted. She openly reveals deep secrets with confidence in her truths, and she shares all her greatest Gilmore Girls moments, from her favorite episode to her favorite Gilmore “guys.” She even tells the reader her final words to Ed Hermann.

You’ll find appreciation for her role as Emily and so far beyond that.
