Spring Reading Challenge Ideas For Adults
In creating this reading challenge, I had two very different types of readers in mind:
- those who want to read but life gets in the way
- those who read avidly and want to be sure to incorporate seasonal reading into their TBR
These are the two most common types of readers I hear from, so this challenge is designed to help both types reach their spring reading goals with these spring lifestyle tips.
This Spring Reading Challenge has three seasonal prompts to read just one book each month:
- March: an Irish author or setting
- April: a spring-themed book
- May: feel good fiction
March: An Irish Author or Setting
March is widely known for being the month when we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and wear (and start to see outside) green. So, let’s read one of the best Irish books or authors!
To get you started, my top three picks are:
- Angelaโs Ashes by Frank McCourt:ย best for fans of memoirs
- The Heartโs Invisible Furies by John Boyne:ย best for fans of Irish historical fiction
- Normal People by Sally Rooney:ย best for fans of contemporary literary fiction
April: A Book Set in Spring
Spring is in full swing during April, so let’s read a book set during spring to celebrate its return.
To get you started, my top three picks are:
- It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover:ย the best contemporary fiction option, using flowers as a metaphor for a story of rebirth
- Late Migrations by Margaret Renkl:ย the best non-fiction option, weaving nature into themes of life in short essays
- Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen:ย the best classic option, set in the picturesque English countryside
May: Feel Good Fiction
Spring is the season when we want to feel uplifted and renewed, so it’s a perfect time to read feel good fiction.
To get you started, my top three picks are:
- The Maidย by Nita Prose: best for cozy mystery readers
- The Midnight Libraryย by Matt Haig: best for fans of magical realism
- Remarkably Bright Creaturesย by Shelby Van Pelt: best for fans of animal characters
