DIY Wedding Invitation Ornament Tutorial

Materials

  • Wedding invitation of average weight cardstock (If the cardstock is matted or too thick, it won’t work for this craft.)
  • Clear plastic ornaments
  • Ribbon (I used silver โ…œ” satin ribbon.)

NOTE

Alternatively, you can make aย book page ornamentย with the pages of a special book too. (Or, print a book page on cardstock. That’s how I made my DIY Harry Potter ornament). Just make sure the pages are fairly thick for this DIY book lovers craft.

Tools

  • A pencil
  • A ruler
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Using the ruler and pencil, draw lines above and below each major line of text.
  2. Cut the major lines of text into strips.
  3. Roll each strip around the pencil so it loosely bends into a spiral shape.
  4. Refine each spiral. In other words, if a lot of white space is showing, trim it! If the spiral is too tight or loose, adjust it! If you think one spiral would look better as two spirals, cut it! It’s up to you to complete this step as you see fit. If you need more spirals, add spirals from your RSVP cards or some confetti, etc.
  5. Open the ornament and start placing the spirals inside. You may wish to put the most visually appealing spirals in the front (for example, the ones that state names and dates). You can add smaller spirals on the sides to make the fit snugger. This way, the more visually appealing spirals stay front and center. Or, you can just let them bounce around randomly — it’s up to you!
  6. Close the ornament.
  7. Thread the ribbon through the hole at the top of the ornament and make a loop the size of your desired length for the ornament to hang. Cut and double-knot the loop to close it. Trim the ends, then move the knot to the backside of the hole at the top of the ornament to disguise it.
  8. Cut another ribbon, at least twelve inches in length. Tie a bow around the loop, near the top of the ornament. Adjust the bow to your desired size, then trim the ends to your desired length.
  9. Hang on your first Christmas tree and enjoy your DIY wedding invitation ornament!
