Quick Daisy Jones and the Six Summary With Themes

Published by Ballantine Books, Daisy Jones & the Six is historical fiction about the rise and fall of a 1970s rock band, reminiscent of a band like Fleetwood Mac.  The main questions posed to the reader are: How did they get together? And, why did they fall apart?

As one might imagine, there’s sex, drugs, and rock and roll in this book, from the recording studio to tour.  Set primarily in Los Angeles, California, the story is told in a documentary interview style with the band members Daisy Jones, Billy Dunne, Karen Sirko, Graham Dunne, Eddie Loving, and Warren Rhodes. This book makes the reader yearn to hear Daisy and lead male vocalist Billie sing together just one more time.

Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid, author of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, is one of the best book club books because it offers discussion of such themes as the 1970s rock and roll scene, music, creativity, addiction, recovery, a love triangle, female empowerment, unreliable narrators, friendships within the band, and loyalty.

Reading Tip: Daisy Jones & the Six was a finalist in the 2020 Audie Awards and is one of the best audiobooks ever. The full-cast narration makes it unputdownable, especially since the book is told in a documentary format.
