What is a favorite things party, and what do you bring to it?
Inspired by the queen of favorite things, Oprah Winfrey, a “favorite things party” is a fun twist on a gift exchange. The basic premise is that guests bring their favorite things to share with other guests. This way, everyone leaves with the most beloved items of the others– not random junk.
Favorite Things Party Gift Ideas For Adults
Below are the exact items I would bring to a favorite things gift exchange. I separated these blogger gift guides by price point: $5, 10, and $25. As mentioned, these are actually my favorite things. The point of this type of party is not to bring random gifts but rather exceptional ones that make a difference in your life, even if it’s tiny!
I also selected value sets where available, as you can break them into separate gifts at a lower price point.
Under $5
Kitsch’s Satin Scrunchies: The only scrunchies I’ve tried that don’t stretch out, don’t rip your hair out, and don’t cost a fortune.
Pacha Bath Bomb: My favorite bath bomb, which I first selected after searching high and low for the cleanest ingredients. (See more relaxing gifts for women)

Ornament: Target is also great at offering cute ornaments at cheap prices. As a book lover, I selected this reading mouse, but there are many options.
Truff Hot Sauce: This sauce blends two amazing flavors together. While cheap, it tastes luxurious and has versatility. It’s also been one of Oprah’s favorite things!
Olive & June Nail Polish (best sellers): The only nail polish I use. It’s most known for being long-lasting, clean, cruelty-free, and vegan. (New customers can save 20% off Olive & June systems with code OJJULIANNEB20.)

Favorite Things Party Rules
There are a few different ways you can run your favorite things party.
First, set a budget and the number of gifts you want each guest to bring.
The gifts can all be displayed. It’s up to you whether they are wrapped, but unwrapped gifts make it easier for guests to learn about the beloved items and/or select what they want.
Then, decide how the gifts will be distributed. You can have guests each place their name on a slip of paper in a bowl. Or, you can have a bowl filled with numbered paper slips for the number of guests attending.
Then, if you are drawing names, each person can state why they selected the item they brought and draw a name to distribute it. Or, if you are drawing numbers, guests can go in order of their number and select an item to bring home, which gives guests more control over what they receive.
Alternatively, you can have everyone bring a gift for everyone else. In this case, it would be fun to give each guest a gift bag and let them fill it!
You will likely want food and drinks at your favorite things party, too. It’s a great idea to make it a potluck and have everyone bring a favorite food or drink. You can assign guests categories to avoid overlap and even have guests bring copies of the recipes so everyone can go home with an excellent selection of favorite recipes!
